I used a threat to get my kids to do what I wanted.
Scenario#1: A certain child of mine was displaying a wee bit of attitude. I told her to knock it off and she crossed her arms and went "Hrmph!" I then proceeded to tell her that if she didn't cut it out then I didn't HAVE TO let her go to Safety Town the next day.
What kind of unfit mother threatens to take away her child's safety program??
Scenario #2: A certain other child of mine wouldn't stay in bed the other night. I put him back in bed no less than 5 times in about 45 minutes. I finally sat him down and bed, pulled out my pointy finger, and pointed in his little face and said "IF YOU DO NOT GET IN BED AND STAY IN BED I WILL CALL GRAMMIE THIS VERY MINUTE AND TELL HER SHE'S NOT ALLOWED TO COME OVER AND PLAY WITH YOU TOMORROW WHILE I'M AT WORK---AND DON'T THINK I WON'T DO IT CAUSE I WIIIIIIIIIIIIILL!" He blinked and replied "ok" then didn't utter another peep until morning.
Good thing neither of them called my bluff.
